About Us

Sylhet Govt. Model School and College (formerly known as Sylhet Model School and College) is one of the most prestigious and modern educational institutions in Bangladesh. The journey of this institution began under a special project of the Ministry of Education, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The primary objective of this initiative was to meet the demand for quality education amidst a growing population and to ensure modern, ICT-based digital education.

The Ministry of Education undertook a project to establish 11 model school and colleges across various divisional cities and district headquarters. Under this project, the decision was made to establish the institution in the Purbo Shahi Eidgah area of Sylhet. Although the foundation stone was officially laid in 2003, the regular academic activities and student enrollment began in 2007 following the completion of the infrastructure.

Since its inception, the institution was operated with great success under private management as 'Sylhet Model School and College.' In recognition of its outstanding achievements and progress in fulfilling the goals of the government’s model project, the government decided to nationalize it.

• Date: The institution was fully nationalised (Sarkari/Government) through a gazette notification by the Ministry of Education on September 18, 2017.
• New Name: Following nationalisation, the institution was renamed 'Sylhet Govt. Model School and College.'

Currently, it is considered one of the top educational institutions under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Sylhet. Its magnificent academic building, modern laboratories, and digital classrooms have elevated it to a unique position in the region. The institution provides education at both the Secondary (Class 6–10) and Higher Secondary (Class 11–12) levels.
